In his statement, he also thanked the BCCI for allowing him to lead the country for a long time. He also shared his gratitude to his teammates for believing in his vision for the team which he described as a memorable journey.

This shocked several cricket fans from all around the world, especially because this came after the team lost a Test series against South Africa.

Kohli first led the country in Test matches to substitute for MS Dhoni’s absence in 2014. He took over as the full-time Test captain after Dhoni retired. As a Test captain, he scored his first series win against Sri Lanka in 2015.

Now, he has led India in 68 Test matches and has secured 40 wins. He also holds an impressive record as a captain, having won 24 of the 31 Tests and only two Tests lost.
