In a momentous achievement, Bangladesh’s national women’s cricket team etched their names in the history books on Sunday by securing their maiden victory over the Indian team in a One Day International (ODI).

Playing at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the Tigresses emerged triumphant by a margin of 40 runs (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method) in the opening match of the three-ODI series.

Chasing a revised target of 154 runs, India faltered and were bowled out for 113 in 35.5 overs. Leading the bowling attack, pacer Marufa Akter shone with exceptional figures of four wickets for 29 runs in her seven overs. Her brilliant performance earned her the well-deserved player of the match award.

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a total of 152 runs, losing all their wickets in 43 overs after India won the toss and elected to field. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty top-scored for the team in red and green with 39 runs, while Fargana Hoque Pinky contributed 27 runs.

The match was affected by rain and a wet outfield, leading to a reduction in overs, with both sides playing 44 overs each.
