After leading Bangladesh to a 2-0 one-day international series win against Ireland last Sunday in Chelmsford, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has expressed that this might have been his final international cricket match on English soil. Tamim made this statement since Bangladesh is not scheduled to play any series in England or against the English team in the upcoming Future Tours Program in the coming years.

Additionally, Tamim, Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah, all senior members of the team, have only a few years left in their international cricket careers.

Tamim expressed his appreciation for the supporters in England, saying, “The [Bangladesh] supporters here have always been special to us. I am not sure if I will be able to play in England again as we do not play them often on their soil. We are not touring England in the next three or four years. So in that regard, I think this was my last [international] match here, and I have enjoyed it a lot, to be honest,” following Bangladesh’s victory in the series against Ireland.

The Chelmsford venue, which can accommodate 6,500 people, was filled with Bangladesh supporters as the Tigers defended 274 runs, thanks to Mustafizur Rahman’s impressive four-wicket haul. At the same time, young Hasan Mahmud remained composed and secured a nine-run victory in the final over of the game.

Tamim ended the series on a positive note by scoring his first half-century in 10 ODIs, with a score of 69 off 82 to lead Bangladesh to a competitive total. The left-handed opener has an impressive record in England, having scored 680 runs in 18 ODIs at an average of 37.77, including four fifties and a century. In the longest format, Tamim has scored two centuries in England, with his famous hundred at Lord’s in 2010 being considered one of the best innings played by a Bangladeshi in England.
