Ramiz Raja targeted legendary fast bowlers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis while referring to Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum’s report on match-fixing.

Wasim Akram’s name cropped up several times in the match-fixing report, he was also fined and removed from the captaincy.

Despite being fined, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were part of Pakistan’s management. Later, he was also on the team’s coaching panel.

When asked about Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, Raja said, “I think none of them should have got a chance in Pakistan cricket. If I were a decision-maker, I would have banned them for life at that time. But they were brought back into the system.

He added: “I wasn’t in power at the time. We were told to play with them and work with them and so on. No one knew how I dealt with it. So many people were involved in it. I don’t know what the obligation was.

“He (Walker Younis) insulted me a lot because I am a resident of Karachi, That trip turned out to be terrifying for me and I just wanted to go back home,” Ramiz Raja Jr. told a local channel in Karachi. Ramiz Raja Jr., 34 years old, said, “He told me to learn Punjabi to stay in the team. They used to speak Punjabi in all party meetings. I once told him (Walker) that I was interested in going to practice with pacer Sohail Bhai. He wouldn’t let me go. He said it was not the Karachi team.”

Recently, former Pakistan star opener Ahmed Shehzad also blamed Waqar Younis for ruining his career. Last June, former Pakistan star cricketer Umar Akmal complained that Waqar Younis is a legendary fast bowler in their country. But he did not understand his role as a coach.
In March 2021, former Pakistan star pacer Mohammad Asif said about Waqar, “You call Waqar Younis the master of reverse swing. But he has long failed to produce a reverse swing bowler from Pakistan’s coaching panel. Such people have been coaching for 20 years but they have never been able to produce an ideal bowler.”

Mohammad Amir, one of the best pacers of Pakistan’s time, retired from international cricket in December 2020 after being mentally abused by former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis.
“Waqar Younis is a legend,” Aamir told reporters in Lahore after retiring from cricket at the tender age of 28. “Misbah-ul-Haq was an extraordinary captain of Pakistan. But coaching is a completely different matter. In this case, before you go on the field, you have to learn, you have to do the necessary studies on coaching.”

“I am not saying that the Pakistan Cricket Board should remove them from their responsibilities,” he added. “But the current mentality of the coaching staff, it is not possible for me to play in the national team.”
