Pakistan’s stronghold at the summit of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings faces a significant threat after a remarkable performance by the Indian team at the Asia Cup. India has yet to taste defeat in the tournament, with their top-order batters, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and captain Rohit Sharma, leading the charge.

Shubman Gill has been the standout performer, notching two half-centuries and accumulating a total of 154 runs in the tournament. As a result, Gill has reached a career-best second place in the latest rankings, with only Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, ahead of him. The gap between Gill and Babar has narrowed to just 103 rating points, with Babar leading at 863 points and Gill following closely at 759 points.

The Indian batting prowess doesn’t end with Gill; both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have seen their rankings improve. Kohli has risen two places to eighth, while Rohit has jumped two spots to ninth. This remarkable feat marks the first time in over four and a half years that India has had three players within the top 10 in the ODI batting rankings.

While Pakistan still boasts three players in the top 10, including Imam-ul-Haq, who drops to fifth, and Fakhar Zaman, now ranking tenth, they face stiff competition from the surging Indian team.

Experienced Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has made significant progress in the updated ODI bowler rankings, climbing five places to seventh. His teammate, Hardik Pandya, has also improved by four places, now occupying the sixth position in the ODI all-rounder rankings.

Among the bowlers, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah have made impressive gains, despite injuries, with Haris rising eight places to 21st and Naseem up 11 spots to equal 51st. Meanwhile, Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood extended his lead at the top of the ODI bowler rankings.

South Africa’s Temba Bavuma has experienced a remarkable ascent, jumping 21 places to 11th in the ODI batting rankings following his impressive century in the series opener against Australia.

In T20I cricket, Glenn Phillips from New Zealand has made significant strides, rising three places to 11th in the updated T20I batting rankings. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi also made notable gains in the T20I bowler rankings.
