Exclusion of Hetmyer from West Indies White-Ball Squads in Australia Tour

Hetmyer has been excluded from both the ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies’ upcoming series against Australia. This decision follows his omission from the team against England late last year. Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers are included in the T20I squad after opting out of the Test tour for T20 franchise contracts.

Notably absent from the ODI squad are Holder and Mayers, with batters Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford allowed to participate in franchise cricket before rejoining for the T20Is. The ODI team, led by Shai Hope, features potential debutants Teddy Bishop and Tevin Imlach. Allrounders Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge make a return, along with legspinner Hayden Walsh Jr.

Hetmyer, who struggled against England, averaging 32.23 in ODIs, has been left out. The ODI series, scheduled for February 2, 4, and 6, will be followed by the T20Is on February 9, 11, and 13. West Indies aims to build on their recent successes and improve in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup, where they are the hosts. Australia’s ODI squad will be captained by Steven Smith, while the T20I squad is yet to be announced but is expected to include David Warner.

Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2024 Auction Preview: Retained, Released, and Traded Players Revealed

In preparation for the IPL 2024 Auction, Rajasthan Royals have let go of Joe Root and Jason Holder. West Indies all-rounder Obed McCoy and several Indian players, including Akash Vashisht, Kuldip Yadav, Murugan Ashwin, KC Cariappa, KM Asif, and Abdul Basith, were also released.

Avesh Khan, the Indian fast bowler, was traded to Rajasthan Royals from Lucknow Super Giants, who, in turn, acquired the services of top-order left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal in a direct swap. Avesh, with 55 wickets in 47 IPL matches, was purchased by LSG for Rs 10 crore in the 2022 mega auction.

The right-arm pacer, having represented LSG in 22 matches with 26 wickets, moved to RR for his existing fee. Padikkal, bought by RR for Rs 7.75 crore, headed to LSG in exchange for his existing fee. Both players were retained by their respective franchises this year.

The complete squad includes Sanju Samson (C), Jos Buttler,Kuldeep Sen, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Shimron Hetmyer,Prasidh Krishna, Yashasvi Jaiswal,Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal,Donovan Ferreira, and Adam Zampa.

The only player traded is Avesh Khan, and the list of released players comprises Joe Root, Jason Holder, Akash Vashisht, Kuldip Yadav, Obed McCoy, Murugan Ashwin, KC Cariappa, KM Asif, and Abdul Basith.

As they head into the IPL 2024 Auction, Rajasthan Royals have a remaining purse of INR 14.5 Crore.

Shakib overtakes Holder-Ashwin in Tests

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was once the top all-rounder in all three versions of cricket. But at present, he has been able to maintain the top spot only in ODIs. However, it is a matter of hope that Shakib is a regular in all three formats, he is also improving in the rankings. He has moved up two places in the latest ICC Test all-rounder rankings.

Shakib is now second in the Test all-rounder rankings, overtaking India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and West Indies’ Jason Holder. Only another India all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, is in front of Shakib. Ashwin and Holder have been relegated to Shakib’s progress. Ashwin is now on three while Holder is at four.

In the Antigua Test against West Indies, Bangladesh lost by 7 wickets but captain Shakib was brilliant. He played more than 50 innings both the innings with the bat and saved the team from shame. He was also effective with the ball in the first innings.

Jason Holder is not in the squad against Bangladesh

The Bangladesh cricket team is currently in the West Indies to play three formats of cricket. The two-match Test series between the two teams will begin on June 16. The West Indies cricket team has announced a 12-man squad for the first Test. Star all-rounder Jason Holder is not in the squad and has been rested.

The Caribbean board has said that Holder will not be available in any format against Bangladesh. Three new faces have been called up to the Windies squad. They are wicketkeeper-batter Devon Thomas, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Moti and pacer Anderson Philippe.

Windies’ squad for the first Test against Bangladesh:
Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood (vice-captain), Nkrumah bonner, John Campbell, Joshua Da Silva, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Moti, Anderson Philippe, Raymon Reifer, Jayden Seales, and Devon Thomas.

Reserves: Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Sherman Lewis.

T20 World Cup 2021: West Indies includes Jason Holder in the squad for the remainder of the tournament

West Indies have brought senior all-rounder Jason Holder into their T20 World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured left-arm seamer Obed McCoy.

McCoy, who represented West Indies in their opening fixture against England, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a right shin injury.

The ICC has officially approved Holder’s addition to the Windies squad. Notably, the star all-rounder was already in the UAE as a travelling reserve and is available for selection in West Indies’ next fixture against Bangladesh on Friday (October 29).

“Jason Holder has been in the UAE for a while now and will fit quite well into the team unit. He is an experienced and knowledgeable cricketer who we know will be eager and excited to grab the opportunity,” said CWI’s lead men’s selector, Roger Harper, in an official statement.

“McCoy did really well in the T20Is earlier this year and adapted well in the opening match against England. He was a key member of the bowling unit, and it’s unfortunate he won’t be able to take any further part in the tournament. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field ready to go again in the near future,” he added.

Not to mention, the defending champions have lost both their first two games in the ongoing global showpiece event. In the first match against England, West Indies faced a six-wicket defeat, while in the second match, South Africa thrashed Windies by eight wickets.
