Serious Allegations

They pertain to attempts made to corrupt the matches in the league. These attempts were disrupted. ECB appointed ICC as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the purposes of the ECB’s Code during the tournament. Thus, ICC are issuing these charges on the ECB’s behalf.

Nasir Hossain's Charges

All-rounder Nasir was charged on three counts in relation to the acceptance of a gift and the failure to disclose it. The charges are as follows:

Article 2.4.3 – Failing to disclose to the DACO receipt of a gift worth over $ 750.
Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the DACO full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in Corrupt Conduct under the Code.
Article 2.4.6 – Failing or refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the DACO in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code.

Parag Sanghvi (co-owner of a team)
Ashar Zaidi (batting coach)
Rizwan Javed (domestic player)
Saliya Saman (domestic player)
Sunny Dhillon (assistant coach)
Shadab Ahamed (team manager)

Immediate Suspension

Six of the charged – Krishan Kumar Chaudhary, Parag Sanghvi, Azhar Zaidi, Rizwan Javed, Saliya Saman, and Sunny Dhillon – have been provisionally suspended and all have 14 days from 19 September 2023 to respond to the charges.

ACC undecided on its Goodwill Ambassador Shakib after market manipulation charges

The Anti-Corruption Commission is yet to make up its mind on whether to keep Shakib Al Hasan as its goodwill ambassador as the star cricketer is facing charges of stock market manipulation. ACC Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain says the commission will take a decision after looking into the allegations against Shakib.

Shakib, the world’s No. 1 all-rounder, has been the goodwill ambassador of the ACC since 2018. The ACC made a campaign video featuring him to raise public awareness against corruption. But a year later, the International Cricket Council banned him for two years, with the last year a suspended ban, for not reporting corrupt approaches. The ACC did not say anything about the cricketer at that time.

Shakib is also doing business alongside playing for Bangladesh. Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission recently said it was investigating suspicious transactions by Shakib and people close to him over the abnormal price rise of certain shares. Shakib is also a goodwill ambassador of the SEC.

Mahbub faced questions from journalists about the matter on Tuesday. “Please wait. The Anti-Corruption Commission will look into the issue. Nothing happens immediately after allegations are made.” The secretary claimed the commission has not been working with Shakib since 2018 when it made a campaign video on its 106 helplines.
