During the first Test in Sylhet on Tuesday, November 28, New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel cautioned Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque about the risk of being run out when he noticed Mominul leaving the crease early in the 39th over of Bangladesh’s innings on Day 1. Patel, known for his impressive performance of taking all 10 wickets in an inning against India in the 2021-22 series, gave Mominul a friendly warning with a smile.

“At any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground.”

“In these circumstances the non-striker will be out Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the stumps or by the bowlerโ€™s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered.”

Mahmdul Hasan Joy Leads Bangladesh to 185/4 at Lunch on Day 1 against New Zealand:

During the match, Bangladesh chose to bat and were at 185/4 at Lunch. At the time of writing, Shahadat Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim were at the crease.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy played a standout innings, scoring 86 runs off 166 balls, including 11 boundaries. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque contributed with identical scores of 37 each. The first wicket fell at 39, with Zakir Hasan scoring 12 before departing. Glenn Phillips took two wickets, while Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi each claimed one scalp.

Regular captain Shakib Al Hasan is unavailable due to injury, and Litton Das is resting for the two-Test series.

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel received a special gift from Team India after the end of the second Test match in Mumbai. In the first innings, he took all the 10-wickets to etch his name in the history books.

The 33-year-old became only the 3rd player in Test cricket to grab all 10-wickets in an innings after Englandโ€™s Jim Laker and Anil Kumble of India. Also, Patel became the first to bag a record 14-wicket haul in an international red-ball fixture against India.

After the contest, Indian spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin on behalf of the Indian team, gifted Patel a signed jersey.

 

The BCCI has shared a few pictures of Patel along with Ashwin.

 

 

โ€œBeen a very special outing, dream to play at Wankhede and to be able to come here and do something like that is very special,โ€ said Ajaz to Ashwin.

โ€œYou look at me standing next to you, I donโ€™t really have the height to be a fast bowler. I switched to spin about 10 years ago and it has been a special journey since. It takes a lot of time to develop the craft. Itโ€™s been amazing to see your journey and the amount of wickets you have taken around the world. For me it is emulating some of the best and you are up there,โ€ he added.

โ€œEarly on India it was about playing cricket in maidan just because you enjoy it with a rubber ball or a heavy tennis ball. In New Zealand there was a little more structure added to it. Indians are cricket mad so in our family we still played in the backyard every hour,โ€ Ajaz signed off.
