Canberra, Gold Coast in Consideration for BBL Finals

If Adelaide Strikers qualify for a home final in the Big Bash League, they might have to play the match in Canberra because of scheduling conflicts with the Test summer. Australia’s home Tests against West Indies are set to take place at Adelaide Oval and the Gabba in Brisbane during the BBL finals week. This means the Strikers, currently in fourth place, won’t be able to host a finals match in Adelaide. Instead, they would play their qualifier or knockout at Manuka Oval. The Heat, in first place, could still host their home finals matches in southeast Queensland at Carrara Oval. The possibility of BBL matches on Christmas Day is also being discussed, with some players open to the idea while others have concerns. Rashid Forced to Withdraw from Australia’s BBL Due to Back Injury

The best Twenty20 bowler in the world was set to play for the Adelaide Strikers for the seventh year in the upcoming tournament starting next month.

“Rashid is a beloved member of the Strikers and a fan favourite who has been with us for seven years, so he will be extremely missed this summer,” club general manager Tim Nielson said in a statement.

“Rashid loves Adelaide and the Strikers, and we know how much he loves playing in the BBL, and we support him as he has treatment for this injury to ensure his long-term involvement in the game.”

Khan has been with the Strikers every season since he started at 19 in 2017. He took 98 wickets in 69 matches, with his best being 6-17. Unfortunately, he won’t be playing this time, which adds to the BBL’s challenges after England’s powerful batter Harry Brook decided not to play for the Melbourne Stars due to workload concerns last week.

Mack, Penna secure Strikers victory after Brown continues fine form

Adelaide Strikers recovered from a mini-innings stumble to beat Perth Scorchers by six wickets and exact some revenge for their loss to the Scorchers in last season’s WBBL final.

Strikers were cruising at 0 for 51 at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Friday. But young Scorchers spinner Lilly Mills struck with three wickets, including the prized scalp of Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath for a duck, in 11 balls to put Scorchers back in the contest.

But a nerveless unbeaten 47 from opener Katie Mack guided Adelaide to an important win with nine balls remaining. Strikers’ fourth victory of the tournament lifts them to second on the ladder, overtaking Scorchers. Mack received solid support from Madeline Penna (32 not out), with the pair putting on an unbeaten 52-run stand for the fifth wicket to close out the match.

Earlier, Strikers never allowed Scorchers to build their innings with quick Darcie Brown (2-18) and spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington (2-13) on fire with the ball.

Australia star Beth Mooney (34) was the pick of Scorchers’ batters, while Amy Edgar hit an unbeaten 27. Strikers are next in action on Wednesday for a clash with Melbourne Stars, while Scorchers face a short turnaround before their match against Brisbane Heat on Saturday evening.
