Sri Lanka Excludes Mathews from World Cup Qualifiers

The cricket board of Sri Lanka has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in Zimbabwe, and it does not include former captain Angelo Mathews.
In his last One Day International (ODI) match at home earlier this month, the 36-year-old Mathews could only manage to score 12 runs from 21 balls. Sri Lanka faced a six-wicket defeat against Afghanistan in the opening game of a three-match series held in Hambantota. Consequently, Mathews was left out of the subsequent matches, both of which were won by the hosts.
Sri Lanka’s first qualifying match for the 2023 ODI World Cup is scheduled for June 19 against the United Arab Emirates in Bulawayo. Following that, they will compete against Oman, Ireland, and Scotland.
Here is the complete Sri Lanka squad for the qualifiers: Dasun Shanaka (captain), Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, and Dushan Hemantha.
