South Africa put one foot on the road to the ODI World Cup with a resounding victory in the two-match series against the Netherlands. However, the Proteas must look to Bangladesh to secure tickets for the tournament. South Africa created danger by refusing to play the series against Australia last January. Despite being the superpower of the cricket world, they needed to be more apprehensive about participating directly in the World Cup. Seven teams, including the hosts, have already confirmed India’s World Cup tickets. West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland and South Africa are in the remaining one-team battle. Sri Lanka was ahead of everyone in the race. But by losing all their matches against New Zealand in their last series, they lost their chance to secure a direct ticket to the World Cup. That gives South Africa an opportunity. After defeating the Dutch in the two-match series, the Proteas climbed to eighth place in the ODI Super League table. But their direct tickets to the World Cup are not confirmed yet. Because running back Ireland still has a series to go. Next May, they will face Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series. If they beat the Tigers in all the matches of that series, the Irish will overtake South Africa in the points table. You will get a chance to play directly in the ODI World Cup.

However, if Bangladesh wins even one match of the series, there will be no chance for the Irish. South Africa is placed eighth in the ODI Super League table with 98 points in 21 matches. They don’t have any more matches to secure the World Cup ticket. On the other hand, Ireland is in 11th place in the table with 68 points in 21 matches. If they win all the matches in the three-match series, they will also have 98 points. However, if they win all the games they are likely to overtake the Proteas by leading the run rate. So far, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, Australia, and Afghanistan have secured ODI World Cup tickets along with hosts India.
