In response to these setbacks, South Africa has called up seamer Lizaad Williams and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo as replacements. South Africa is set to kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on October 7.

Anrich Nortje’s absence is particularly concerning as he has succumbed to a back issue, which had already caused him to miss a significant portion of the recent home series against Australia. His absence will be felt keenly, given his ability to generate extreme pace.

Sisanda Magala, on the other hand, has been grappling with a knee injury that has forced him out of contention.

Coach Rob Walter expressed his views on the situation, stating, “This provides an opportunity for Andile and Lizaad on the global stage. Both players have been part of our winter programs as well as having represented South Africa in the recent white-ball tour against Australia. They offer great skill sets, and we’re excited to have them complete the 15-player squad for this year’s World Cup.”

Andile Phehlukwayo, with 76 One-Day Internationals under his belt, brings his experience to the squad. Known for his bowling variations and lower-order hitting, he has been in and out of the side due to inconsistent form since his debut in 2016.

Lizaad Williams, though with limited ODI experience, has impressed in T20 matches and test cricket. His recent performance against Australia showcased his potential.
