Sourav Ganguly said where the Asia Cup will be held
The cricket world was wavering about whether this year’s Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka, which is troubled by the economic crisis and political unrest.
Even 37 days before the start of the tournament, there was doubt about the venue. Finally, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) withdrew from the decision to host the Asia Cup.
The United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and India were discussed as alternative venues since the beginning of the crisis in Sri Lanka.
However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stopped the discussion on Thursday. He said that this year’s Asia Cup is being held in the United Arab Emirates.
After a meeting of the Apex Council on Thursday, the BCCI president told news agency PTI that this time the Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates. Because this is the only venue where there is no chance of rain. Note that the 2022 Asia Cup will be a T20 edition. The main episode is scheduled to run from August 27 to September 11. Prior to this, the qualifiers are scheduled to be held from August 20 to 26.
Five Test playing countries Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will play directly in the main phase. The qualifiers will see a team from Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, and the Emirates qualify for the main draw.
