India has started the Women’s T20 World Cup with a match against Pakistan. India won by seven wickets against arch-rivals in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday. India reached the target of 150 runs given by Pakistan with one over in hand.

In the run chase, India got off to a good start with Yastika Bhatia and Shefali Verma. Bhatia scored 17 off 20 balls and Sefali scored 33 off 25 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur returned to the dressing room with 16 off 12 balls. Jemimah Rodriguez and Richa Ghosh left the field after winning the team with an unbroken 58-run partnership. Jemimah played innings of 53 runs off 38 balls, while Richa came from the bat and 31 off 20 balls.

Earlier, Pakistan scored 149 runs in 20 overs with the bat of captain Bismah Maruf and Ayesha Nasim. Bismah played an unbeaten 68 off 55 balls. Ayesha Nasim also played an unbeaten inning of 43 runs in 25 balls. The two shared an unbroken 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
