Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is aiming to make a comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the 2024 edition, marking an end to his eight-year absence from the lucrative Twenty20 tournament.

Prioritizing National Duties

Starc, known for his lethal left-arm pace, last participated in the IPL in 2015, representing Royal Challengers Bangalore. In recent years, he opted to skip the IPL to manage his workload and concentrate on his commitments with the Australian national team.

IPL as T20 World Cup Preparation

Starc emphasized that his return to the IPL in 2024 would serve as valuable preparation for the T20 World Cup, set to take place in the United States and West Indies. He believes that the IPL’s competitive environment will help him fine-tune his skills for the global T20 event.

Starc expressed his intentions on the ‘Willow Talk’ podcast, stating, “Look it’s been eight years. I’m definitely going back in (next) year. Amongst other things, it’s a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup. And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year … in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in.”

Current Injury Status

Currently, Starc is recovering from a groin strain, which has sidelined him while the Australian team prepares for the 50-overs World Cup with a one-day series in South Africa. Despite the injury setback, Starc has been named in Australia’s provisional 15-man squad for the upcoming tournament in India, scheduled to commence next month.
