South African batsman Aiden Markram last played a Test match six months ago. He scored a century two years ago. He painted the stage of his return in white with a century. Markram scored a great century on the first day of the Centurion Test against the touring West Indies.

South Africa finished the first day with 314 runs for 8 wickets thanks to Markram’s 115 runs. Markram and Dean Elgar scored 141 runs in the opening pair. Elgar played an inning of 71 runs in 118 balls. Tony de Georgie scored 28 and Henrik Klaasen scored 20 runs. Captain Temba Bavuma could not open the account of runs. Marco Hansen is unbeaten on 17 and Gerald Coetze is unbeaten on 11.

Aljasi Joseph took the maximum of three wickets for the West Indies. Kemar Roach, Kyle Mayers, Shannon Gabriel, and Jason Holder took one wicket each.
