Shreyas Iyer is the regular captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders. However, he is currently out of the field due to an injury.

Meanwhile, the 16th edition of the IPL is going to start on March 31. The Knight Riders announced the name of the acting captain for the tournament on Monday.

Young Indian batsman Nitish Rana has been given the responsibility of the acting captain. Ranai will lead KKR until Shreyas Iyer returns. Along with Nitish, two Caribbeans Sunil Narine and Andre Russell were in the race for captaincy. But in the end, KKR chose Rana.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das were also in discussion about the captaincy of Kolkata. However, they were not considered in the end as there was no possibility of playing all the matches. These two-star cricketers of Bangladesh will not be in the first two matches for the Test against Ireland. Due to the tour of Ireland in the end, they will not be able to get three matches.
