He is the hero of the Irish fairy tale. He still owns the fastest century in the ODI World Cup. Kevin O’Brien has set many other records in his 15-year career. He wanted to retire after playing the T20 World Cup in Australia.
O’Brien has played 3 Tests, 153 ODIs, and 110 T20Is for Ireland. He scored 258 runs including one century, and one fifty in Tests. In addition to 3619 runs in ODIs, this all-rounder has taken 114 wickets, and two centuries. There is also a century in T20. The most memorable innings were undoubtedly against England in the 2011 World Cup. He scored a century in just 50 balls, which is still the fastest in the World Cup. The Irish won the match by crossing the target of 328 runs in that innings of 113 runs in 63 balls.
He is the second-highest run-scorer (5,820) in all formats in Ireland’s jersey after Paul Stirling. He is also the second highest wicket-taker (172) after George Dockrell in all formats. O’Brien is also the only centurion in Test cricket for the Irish so far.
