English all-rounder Ben Stokes recently retired from ODI cricket due to pressure from all three formats.
After the ODI World Cup, many more are thinking of saying goodbye to this format. In such a situation, many have expressed concern about the future of 50-over cricket.
At its Annual General Meeting in Birmingham on Wednesday, the ICC said in a statement that there were no concerns about ODIs working between them. They want to maintain the balance and keep all three formats running.
ICC Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice said: “There are three types of cricket that are supposed to be run equally. That’s how we finalized the schedule. There’s some discussion going on now, but it’s not just about one-day cricket. We want to play all forms of cricket together. To that end, there are enough ODI matches in each team’s future schedule. You will not see much change in the next FTP cycle. ’
Some countries are preferring domestic T20 leagues over international games. Allardyce said: “All boards have to strike a balance between domestic and international schedules. They also need to keep in mind that their players don’t create pressure. The situation on each board is a little different. So the same system may not be convenient for everyone. ’
