Babar Azam nominated for ICC Player of the Month accolade

Pakistan’s captain showcased his brilliance once again during his team’s home ODI series against New Zealand. With Pakistan winning four out of five matches, Babar played a pivotal role in their success.
On May 3, Babar partnered with Imam-ul-Haq for a century second-wicket stand, contributing 54 runs off 62 balls as Pakistan posted a total of 287/6. He also displayed his captaincy skills by employing six bowlers, leading to New Zealand being bowled out for 261.
In the next match, Babar took his performance to another level, earning the Player of the Match award in Pakistan’s 102-run victory. He scored a magnificent 107 off 117 balls, marking his 18th ODI century and helping his team reach 334/6.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh)
Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his upward trajectory with another exceptional ODI series, this time against Ireland. Given the No.3 position, the 24-year-old made significant contributions throughout the series.
In the first match, he scored 44 runs before rain interrupted the game. However, Najmul truly shone in the second match, where he played a vital role in Bangladesh’s thrilling chase of 320 runs. He smashed a remarkable maiden century in just 83 balls, finishing with 117 from 93 deliveries, including 12 fours and three sixes.
Najmul’s efforts were recognized as he received the Player of the Series award, contributing to Bangladesh’s successful Super League campaign.
Harry Tector (Ireland)
Despite Ireland’s disappointing end to the Super League campaign, 23-year-old Harry Tector demonstrated his immense talent and potential for the national team.
In the first ODI against Bangladesh, Tector remained unbeaten at 21* before rain intervened. However, he showcased his exceptional batting skills in the second ODI, recording a career-best knock of 140 off just 113 balls. His innings included seven fours and an astonishing 10 sixes, completely turning the match around for Ireland.
Even though Ireland couldn’t secure a victory, Tector’s performance was remarkable considering the challenging situation his team faced at 16/2 in the seventh over. He continued to impress in the third ODI against Bangladesh, contributing 45 runs from 48 balls.
These three batsmen have truly stood out with their exceptional performances, making them strong contenders for the ICC Player of the Month award.
