Will Babar Azam and Virat Kohli be seen playing for the same team this time? Can one ever imagine watching Virat Kohli and Babar Azam play for the same team, that too in an international match! If all goes well, cricket fans in India and Pakistan can watch this scene.
According to sources, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is planning to resume the Afro-Asian Cup. If so, such a scenario can be seen.
The Afro-Asian Cup tournament was played in 2005 and 2007. ACC is looking to start the tournament in T20 format next year. If that happens, experienced players like Virat Kohli and Babar Azam will be seen playing together for The Asia XI.
The restructuring of the ACC is being led by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. A bilateral series between India and Pakistan has not been played for many years. Both teams play against each other only in ICC events.
According to Inside Sports, Jay Shah is in talks with African Cricket Association Sumad Damodar and ACC’s development committee chairman Mahinda Valipuram and talks are on to complete the same by June-July 2023.
In 2005 and 2007, Indian cricketers like Sourav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Virender Sehwag were in Asia XI. They were paired with Muhammad Yousuf, Muhammad Asif, and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi.
