Confirming the news in a tweet on Thursday, Cricket Australia said that Sri Lanka is going through its worst economic crisis in the last decade. The Australian cricket team is supporting the affected children and their families. The Aussies have donated 45,000 Australian dollars. In Sri Lankan currency that is one crore 16 lakh 56 thousand rupees.

Australian Test team captain Pat Cummins told the Daily Mirror, “I have seen with my own eyes how many problems the people of Sri Lanka are facing every day. I saw the suffering of the people of that country in front of my eyes. UNICEF has been doing humanitarian work in Sri Lanka for over 50 years. We at UNICEF decided to help the people and children there. It is the right decision for us.

In this regard, UNICEF Australia CEO Tony Stewart said, ‘Australian cricketers helped people during the peak of the Covid infection in India last year as well. This time they have come forward and taken this step for Sri Lankans.
