The team director of the national team, Khaled Mahmud Sujon said, “Our openers have not been doing well in recent times. It should be taken into account. We saw a few on the Zimbabwe tour, not doing well. We have to make-shift. Maybe we will make-shift by planning different wickets. Who will or who won’t – I’m not saying that now. But we thought a lot.”

He also said, ‘While talking to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Parvez Emon are recognized openers in the announced team for Asia Cup. But many others have opened in local cricket. We think so. It could be Mushfiqur, it could be Shakib or it might be Miraj. So we have many options.

Sujon also said, “I want to find out from among the experienced that have played a lot of T20. Or we can think of those who have opened in some cases in domestic cricket, by changing someone’s batting position – we can do this in the Asia Cup.”

Five openers were included in the squad for the last T20 series against Zimbabwe. Only two openers are again recognized in the Asia Cup squad. On the day of the team announcement, the selectors said that the make-shift opener will be made from the middle order. Now team director Khaled Mahmud said – Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are also thinking of opening. Bangladesh has used 5 different opening pairs in 8 T20s this year. Another new pair will definitely be seen in the Asia Cup.
