In the final in Christchurch, New Zealand, Australia batted first on Sunday and scored 356 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, last year’s champions England were all out for 285 runs. As a result, Australia won the World Cup by 71 runs.
After losing the toss, Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes got off to a great start. These two batsmen made an opening pair of 160 runs.
Haynes was out for 68 runs. Healy then led the team to the run hill with Beth Mooney.
Healy completed the fifth ODI century of his career and was dismissed for 170 runs. His innings were the biggest in the men’s and women’s World Cup finals. Earlier, Australia’s Adam Gilchrist played an innings of 149 runs in the 2007 Boys’ World Cup final.
62 runs came from the bat of Beth Mooney. Australia finished the innings with a score of 356 runs.
In reply, England was quickly knocked out of the match after losing wickets at regular intervals. Nat Sciver tries to fight alone. But that didn’t help much except to reduce the team’s margin of defeat.
Sciver held one end but no one else could help him. Sciver played aggressively and picked up his century. He remained unbeaten on 148 runs. Despite his efforts, England could not score more than 285 runs.
For Australia, Alana King and Jess Jonassen took three wickets each.
