Pakistan needed 157 runs on the fourth day to win. There are 6 wickets in hand. Shakil remained unbeaten on 54 runs. But Pakistan lost this match! At the beginning of the day, Fahim Ashraf (10) was caught in the slip while driving Mojo Root. Then Shakil and Mohammad Nawaz (45) were leading the team with great batting. But just before lunch, Mark Wood said goodbye to both of them. Both of them were dismissed by short balls outside the leg stump.
But there has been a controversy over the dismissal of Shakil (94). Umpire Aleem Dar’s soft signal was out. Despite watching tv replays, the third umpire retained that decision. But the replays showed that the ball had touched the ground before Oliver Pope’s gloves were captured. Commentator Mike Atherton also said that the keeper’s gloves were not completely under the ball. Then Pakistan’s batting collapsed. Their last 5 wickets fell for 38 runs. Centurion Harry Brooke won the Man of the Match award.
